Shani Katz

Shani completed a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Northwestern University. For her capstone project, Shani co-developed a Point of Care Tuberculosis diagnostic device which was awarded the NIH OAR Prize for HIV/AIDS and First Place in the Medtronic Student Design Competition: Supply Chain Track.
She received a Master of Research with Distinction in Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship from Imperial College London. Her master’s thesis focused on an aptamer based delivery system for healing nonunion fractures and a business plan for a startup based on this technology.
She spent two years, after finishing her master’s, developing the business plan for the venture and participating in startup competitions, such as Imperial’s WeInnovate Pre-Accelerator, London Business School’s Health Tech Challenge, and the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Emerging Technologies Competition. She also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Master of Research in Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship, amongst other courses, where she supported over 25 undergraduate and master’s students.
