Dan Anafi
Maryland Department of IT, University of Pennsylvania Alum
Dan Anafi holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of Florida and a Master of Computer and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania, and earned a Master of Science in Engineering in Data Science from Penn in June 2026. He is a data scientist and software engineer with hands-on experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, NLP, secure cloud software development, and biophysics research. He spent nine years at Amgen conducting protein characterization research that resulted in peer-reviewed publications, and one year at Amazon Web Services supporting secure cloud services, and has applied his skills to projects in EV adoption modeling, neural language modeling, and computer vision. He currently serves as Head Teaching Assistant for the University of Pennsylvania’s graduate Artificial Intelligence course, where he received the Penn Engineering Online TA Award for Excellence in Student Support and leads recitations and office hours in search, probabilistic reasoning, reinforcement learning, and neural networks; he also volunteers as a math tutor with EnCorps, with the goal of applying his technical background to mission-driven work in the public interest.
